Celebrating 50 years of touring in 2025, the Honda Gold Wing – since its introduction as a naked 1,000cc machine in 1975 – has always represented the ultimate in two-wheeled travel. And it’s a motorcycle that’s been very much on its own journey, growing in physical size and displacement over the decades, all the while creating an enduring and unrivalled reputation for luxury, quality and comfort.

Design

Stripping away the Gold Wing’s sleek bodywork reveals a fully honed chassis; a hugely strong, die-cast aluminium beam frame provides rock-solid stability, with steering precision and control from double wishbone front suspension. The single-sided rear Pro-Arm operates through Pro-Link, with electronically adjustable spring preload, and front and rear damping adjusts relative to riding mode selected. Dual Combined Braking System (D-CBS) distributes braking force evenly and with ABS control for confident, efficient stopping power. Hill Start Assist (HSA) makes getaways on an incline easy.

Technology

The Gold Wing features a compact, horizontally opposed six-cylinder 1,833 cc engine with four valves per cylinder, based on Honda's Unicam head design. Its aluminum cylinder sleeves and short, stiff crank enhance performance, while the integrated starter and alternator improve efficiency. This design allows for better comfort, handling, and a more engaging ride, making it a top choice for long-distance and sporty motorcycling.

Innovative Design Reduces Gold Wing Engine Weight

Mounting the Gold Wing’s transmission below the crankshaft and spinning it opposite the crank’s rotation helps neutralise any engine torque reaction. Combining the alternator and starter into one integrated unit is one reason why the Gold Wing’s engine is over 5.9 kg lighter than the previous model!

The Honda GL1800 Gold Wing features a lighter, compact design for improved touring comfort. Its 1,833cc flat-six engine produces 170 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm for smooth acceleration. Throttle By Wire (TBW) offers four riding modes—TOUR, SPORT, ECON, and RAIN—for precise throttle control and cruise efficiency. The seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) ensures seamless shifting and includes a Walking mode for effortless maneuvering.
