15th June Race Weekend Highlights: Motorsports

A strong showing for Lecuona, sixth in Race 2 at Misano, while a gritty Vierge secures two top ten finishes

Honda HRC rider Lecuona secured a valuable ninth place in the Superpole race and a strong sixth place in Race 2 at Misano, while a not yet fully fit Vierge battled hard to finish inside the top ten in both of Sunday’s races – an impressive achievement, considering he had surgery to remedy four fractures to his right foot just over three weeks ago

MAX VERSTAPPEN, Finish Position: 2, Start Position: 2

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - JUNE 15: Second placed Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing lifts his trophy on the podium during the F1 Grand Prix of Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 15, 2025 in Montreal, Quebec.

“Today we definitely maximised everything that we had available, said Max. We drove quite a defensive race today and it was quite tough out there. The tyre degradation was quite high and in the first two stints we were going through the tyres quite quickly. We didn’t really have the pace to fight upfront and had a bit too much degradation to be in the fight for the win, so I’m happy to be P2. The gap wasn’t big to George but didn’t think I had the pace to fight for the win. There are lots of positives from the weekend: as a Team we did the best performance possible, got it right and our car was in a decent window. Looking to the next race we have a bit of work to do with our tyre management and the degradation but lots of positives to take forward.”

Yuki Tsunoda’s race was compromised, as he was handed a 10-place grid drop penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix after he passed Oscar Piastri after the red flags were flying in final practice.

Kyle Kirkwood scores Honda’s eighth-consecutive IndyCar victory of 2025

Kyle Kirkwood notched his third victory of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, giving Honda its eighth win in eight races to start the year.

Today’s victory at World Wide Technology Raceway is Kirkwood’s third win of the season, following triumphs at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and last time out at the Detroit Grand Prix. It is also the Andretti Global #27 driver’s first-career victory on an oval.

The win puts Kirkwood just two points off of second place in the drivers’ title fight, and 75 points off of championship leader Alex Palou. Palou and Kirkwood are the only two drivers to win so far this season, giving Honda a perfect start to the year in NTT INDYCAR SERIES competition. The great start gives Honda a 148 point advantage in the manufacturers’ championship,
