Honda Celebrates 40th Anniversary of First F1™ Constructors' Title with Dynamic Showcase at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026

  • Williams Honda FW11 returned to the Hillclimb alongside the world-first dynamic debut of the Prelude HRC Concept, as Honda marks four decades since its maiden Formula One World Championship™ title

13th July 2026, WEST SUSSEX, UK — Honda marked a landmark year in its motorsport heritage at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, combining a celebration of the 40th anniversary of its first FIA Formula One World Championship™ Constructors' title with a dynamic showcase of its latest performance and electrification technologies.

    1. Celebrating 40 Years Since Honda's First F1™ Constructors' Title

In 1986, the Williams Honda FW11 — powered by a 1.5-litre V6 twin-turbo RA166E engine — delivered Honda's first Constructors' Championship title, winning nine of 16 Grands Prix that season. The result marked the beginning of a golden era in which Honda would go on to claim multiple further championships.

To mark the 40th anniversary of this milestone, Honda staged a global showrun programme featuring the historic FW11, culminating in its appearance on the Goodwood Hillclimb, where it was driven by:

    • Damon Hill — 1996 F1™ Drivers' Champion
    • Ryo Michigami — 2000 All Japan GT Championship (JGTC) title winner with the NSX

The FW11's presence at Goodwood underscored motorsport's enduring role as a proving ground for Honda's technology and engineering — a philosophy the company has upheld since it first entered F1™ in 1964.
