28th July Weekend Race Updates: Racing Weekend Roundup

  1. F1 Belgium

Red Bull's Grit Meets Belgium GP Chaos: Points for Verstappen and Lawson

27th July 2025: Max Verstappen delivered Red Bull’s strongest showing by finishing 4th at Spa‑Francorchamps in Oracle Red Bull Racing’s first race under new team principal Laurent Mekies—despite a frustrating rain‑delayed start and near‑constant spray, he couldn’t match McLaren’s superior wet‑dry pace. Meanwhile, within the sister outfit Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, Liam Lawson executed a “near‑perfect race” to score 8th place, successfully timing the switch from intermediates to slick tyres and pulling clear of rivals for valuable points, while Isack Hadjar completed in 20th after enduring a technical issue that severely hampered his performance.

Alex Palou and Honda victorious at Laguna Seca

28th July 2025, MONTEREY, CA: It was another dominant display from Alex Palou, who claimed his eighth win of the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, leading 84 of 95 laps from pole. The victory marked Honda’s 12th win in 14 races this year, solidifying their lead in the manufacturers' championship. Palou now commands a 121-point lead in the drivers' standings as he chases a third straight title. Teammate Scott Dixon made a remarkable recovery from P19 to P5 using strategic fuel management, while Colton Herta took third—his second podium of the season. Marcus Armstrong finished P8, matching his career-best top-10 count with three rounds remaining. Honda now holds a 224-point lead over Chevrolet in the manufacturers' race.

Fernandez Battles from Last to Seventh in Gritty Czech MXGP Comeback

27th July 2025: Ruben Fernandez delivered a heroic charge from the back of the pack to finish 7th in moto two, narrowly missing the podium with a 4th overall at the MXGP of the Czech Republic, marking a strong debut for the new prototype Honda CRF450R. After a stellar second-place finish in moto one, Fernandez’s chances were hindered by early contact in race two, but he carved his way through the field in a display of sheer determination. In MX2, Valerio Lata showed early promise with strong starts on his CRF250R, but couldn't maintain pace with the front-runners, settling for 10th overall. Despite challenges, both riders and machines showed positive signs ahead of the demanding sands of Lommel.

Vierge Battles to P5 and P7 as Honda HRC Marks 1000th WorldSBK Race at Balaton

27th July 2025, Hungary: At the landmark 1000th WorldSBK race weekend at Hungary’s new Balaton Park Circuit, Honda HRC’s Xavi Vierge delivered a strong performance, finishing 5th in the Superpole race and 7th in Race 2. With teammate Iker Lecuona sidelined due to injury from a Race 1 crash, Vierge was the sole factory rider and rose to the challenge. After starting 7th in the Superpole race on a damp track, he recovered from early contact to claim fifth, securing a second-row start. In the afternoon’s main race, he maintained consistent pace to finish seventh. Vierge now holds 7th in the standings with 112 points, while Lecuona drops to 16th after a scoreless weekend. The team now heads to testing at Aragon ahead of the next round at Magny-Cours in France.
